A bizarre comedy about the Japanese cryptid Tsuchinoko, directed by Shinji Imaoka, the master of independent cinema known for his eccentric works.
Synopsys:
Sonoko’s husband, Ichiro has been carried off by a giant snake-like creature that lives in the mountains, called Tsuchinoko. Desperate to save him, she puts her hand into the burrow that the snake disappears into but becomes stuck Unable to move, she stays there until morning, when a Tsuchinoko hunter named Kurikoma appears. Kurikoma decides that because he saved Sonoko, he can have his way with her. He tells her that her husband is dead, eaten by the Tsuchinoko, and that no one will believe her about the creature even if she tries to find help. Reeling from the shock of the incident, Sonoko finds herself in depravity, and desperate for money, starts working at a bar with proprietress Keiko and hostess Satomi. Gaining encouragement from the unique characters visiting the bar, she finally musters enough courage to return to the mountains and look for her husband again.
